Oldsmar, FloridaIn 1913 Ransom E Olds - of Oldsmobile and Reo fame - purchased 37,541 acres of undeveloped Oldsmar real estate by the northern tip of Tampa Bay. He named the town R. E. Olds-On-The-Bay and set about developing the land and naming the streets. Today´s Oldsmar still has an old town feeling combined with the amenities of modern day living. Oldsmar can boast more parks per square mile than any other city in Florida. One of the most beautiful, R.E. Olds Park comprises 15 acres of waterfront land located at the northern part of Tampa Bay. With gorgeous views, a 12,000 square foot playground, canoe trails, and a 400 foot fishing pier there are plenty of recreation and leisure activities for old and young alike. R.E. Olds is home to many events throughout the year including Oldsmar Days and Nights where residents and visitors take part in parades, car shows and carnival rides. Oldsmar also boasts the area´s only Sprayground - a "playground" where children are delighted by colorful metal sculptures that spray and soak them. For the horseracing enthusiast Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack offers the area´s only thoroughbred horse track. |
